Career Change (Example Reading)

In a previous post, I talked about a friend with whom I’m doing an experiment with German Skat cards. According to the spread, he should get the job he applied for. Yesterday we did a Geomancy reading on the same topic of his change of career direction. This was the reading.

The more I study Geomancy’s old texts, the more I am inclined to interpret the Witnesses as representations of the querent (Right Witness) and quesited (Left Witness).

In this case, the querent is represented by Via, the way, which is an appropriate symbol for someone looking to change up his career. The quesited is Fortuna Minor, sometimes called “the outside help”. It could easily be seen as an opportunity for this change to happen. The Judge resulting from the two witnesses is Fortuna Major, which is positive and offers long-term good prospects.

Within the chart itself, the querent is indicated by Tristitia. Tristitia is a symbol of sadness and stuckness. The job is indicated, once again, by Fortuna Minor. Minor springs from the Tenth to the Twelfth house. If we go by Abano’s indications, the twelfth house in the shield doesn’t touch the first, so it shouldn’t count as perfection.

Still, I have found in my practice that the two houses can be seen as contiguous to one another. Therefore, Minor moving toward the querent should repeat the testimony of the opportunity presenting itself for a change of career, in this case to relieve the stuckness of Tristitia.

Tristitia also moves toward the fifth and sixth houses. The fifth is good, the sixth is bad. However, if you read the previous post, the job is in the healthcare sector, though it would be hard to see this in the geomantic chart if I didn’t know it in advance. Tristitia’s move toward the sixth house could also indicate the querent’s stuckness is not good for him, so it might encourage him to accept the change coming from the tenth house. I am more inclined to this latter interpretation.

We still don’t know the result, but I’ll update the post when I know more.

A Career Cross Spread (Example Reading)

When I was taught to read playing cards, the cross spread was presented to me as a general spread. However, over time I discovered that it can also be used to answer specific questions of a general nature, or simply to explore certain compartments of the querent’s life. Here is a recent spread on a male querent asking about his career:

To summarise the main meanings of the various fans:

  1. Left: past-present
  2. Center: in the heart, sometimes present
  3. Right: present-future
  4. Above: thoughts, would like
  5. Below: dislikes, problem
  6. To the side: future/answer

The cool thing about larger spreads is that sometimes we can just identify a single spot that answers the question clearly, and everything else gives details that may or may not interest the querent. Here, the clear answer occurs in the right spot: 9♣️ 8♣️ 8♠️, which translates as “for a long time the job will give the querent tears”.

Now that we have identified a clear sentence, let’s fill out the details. Since the sentence is quite negative, let’s look at other negative spots. In his heart, the querent has the 3♠️ which brings difficulties, complications etc. But it is followed by cards that bring hopes of a solution (the two Hearts). Clearly there has been something that caused the querent to start hoping.

Now look at the fan above: he would like a contract (3♣️) that gives him happiness (10♥️). Between these two cards we find the sickness card (6♠️). This could indicate that it is a vain hope or a sick hope, one that is not grounded in reality. On the left we see that he has a small income (3♦️) but works hard (5♣️ J♣️) so it’s not that he doesn’t deserve job security. Below we see a difficult situation with a man that might be his boss or a superior. Clearly he is not the teacher’s pet (the Q♣️ simply shows that the querent’s troubles reflect badly on his love life).

The final fan unfortunately robs the querent of all hope, although it argues that there will be help from a man. To dig deeper I should have done another spread. As it stands, the detail is quite vague.

One of the things I enjoy the most about cartomancy (not just with the Sibilla. Most decks will do it) is how they tell a story of the querent’s life, either in general or in a particular sector, and we get to experience it as if it were a slide show of someone’s vacation. Here is an example about a querent who asked, generally, about her career (don’t mind the chaotic layout. The cards are essentially to be read in a row. I started with five cards and I had to rearrange the spread to take the picture once the layout had become too unwieldy from drawing additional cards).

A career reading with the Vera Sibilla

The first thing that caught my eye was that Scholar (Seven of Hearts) showing a legal contract, caught between the reversed Sickness card and the Death card. I enquired if the querent had recently lost her job or if she was about to, then the King of Spades (the law) popped into view, next to the Death card which shows unbalanced things, so I added if she considered the termination to be wrongful in some way.

It turned out that the querent had just been fired, a couple of weeks prior, from her job and that she thought they had fired her after wringing her dry of her business contacts.

Notice, though, how the cards immediately clear up as soon as that nasty initial constellation is overcome: we have important contacts (Letter and Messenger) that will put her on the right track (the Peacock). There is still anxiety (Sighs) surrounding her work (Merchant) but she is going to get a temporary job (the Five of Hearts) probably working with people (all the people cards) and that will solve quite a bit of her problems (the Four of Diamonds reversed at the end).

She ended up getting in contact with a smaller business than the one she had worked for, but one with a more positive environment, where the boss offered her a very well-paid temporary position to be a representative of their product to new clients. I also told her that if she was thinking of suing her old employers for wrongful termination, she probably had a leg to stand on. She said she was thinking of suing, but wasn’t sure.
