All eights in cartomancy represent people as well as the type of environment they are in. They also represent conscience.

The Eight of Clubs represents a group of workers, but more broadly it signifies working people and the common folk. In XIX Italy, the common folk used to be mostly made up of peasants, so this is the card of peasants, either literal peasants or people who need to work for a living.

As an extension of this, the Eight of Clubs can be a significator card for the querent’s job or the querent’s work environment. Often, a Face card falling next to the Eight of Clubs represents either a colleague or a boss. Like most Club cards, the Eight of Clubs represents the idea of effort. While other cards can represent the querent’s job by hinting at the fact that the querent is being paid for it (Three, Seven, Eight of Diamonds, for instance) the Eight of Clubs signifies the querent’s job because that’s where he needs to make an effort and expend energy.

The Eight of Clubs also points to planned actions and actions done in full conscience. This can be good or bad, depending on the context.
